Pi Rack Testing Continued

Been busy. I only work on the Pi Rack if all my work is done, and then I limit my time to 2 hours a day. This is my hobby, and I do not want it to become my obsession. I could easily see myself spending a full day on it. I am very close to getting it running. The last pi is coming in. The PCB boards have been ordered. I am putting together my list of parts to order from Digi-Key for the PCB boards. The only detail really left to figure out is the monitor. I would love to have a 10″ monitor. The only way that could happen would be to have a monitor that slides up and down rather than on hinges. That seems like a lot of work. Would be cool, but naw.

The hinges for the fuse buses were a pain to design. I have the vision, but not the SolidWorks talent to get it done. Had the students at the SDMines 3D Print Club help me out. They are a great group of young adults, and I believe many of them will go far in life. I talk to them almost every day and listen. Many attainable ideas are being discussed there. I would love to talk about some of them, but that is not my place in this rabbit hole. That could rob them of their idea, and I will not do that. Maybe this weekend I can post some images of the Pi Rack.

After a bit of work, I got the PI 5 to boot off the headers with no warnings. That was a big relief. Now I can order the remaining supplies and put the rack together. A couple of settings in the config.txt were needed. Rebooted and everything ran fine. I tested the voltage using the…

  • Phase 1 Testing

Decided to build the Pi Rack. Phase 1 will be just powering the rack through the gpio header pins 2,4,6, and 14. I ordered the Mean Well LRS-350-5, a Fuse Block, a Raspberry Pi 5, some 2-pin Molex Micro-fit 3.0 connectors, and a breakout board that supports Ferrules. Fought a long time with Gen AI…

  • Pi Cluster Rack

Spent the whole day designing a self-contained Pi cluster rack. Had so much fun doing it. Now I want to build it. I am seriously thinking about doing this. Have it split into a 7-stage design process so it isn’t hard on the wallet. No more than 4 Pi Raspberry Pis until proof of concept…
